Mom of the Month
Hi all! So honored to be chosen as ‘Mom of the Month’ for February.
I grew up in Pennsylvania in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. At age 20, I moved to Long Beach where I attended college, studied classical voice, and obtained a music degree. During this time and in the years after, I was fortunate to have opportunities to perform in the classical music scene in both Los Angeles and San Diego, and I also taught music.
Fast forward to 2017: I met the love of my life, Carlos, through mutual friends and moved from Long Beach to San Diego. At the height of the pandemic, we got engaged and married in what I like to call a “backyard micro-wedding” with just our immediate family members present. The silver lining of having a pandemic wedding was that the money we saved by keeping it small went toward the honeymoon of a lifetime in Italy a few years later!
In February 2025, we welcomed our sweet boy, Santiago. We waited to find out the gender until I delivered him and the joy I felt when my husband said “It’s a boy!” was immeasurable! I feel so privileged to be Santi’s Mom and I love seeing the beauty of the world afresh through his eyes.
Leading up to Santi’s birth, my sister-in-law encouraged me to give FIT4MOM a try to physically prepare for delivery and to meet some other moms. I was hesitant to try the class at first but am so glad I did! I cannot imagine navigating life postpartum without the support of this community. Shout out to all the moms who endured fragmented conversations with me when I returned to class with a 9 week-old in the throes of chronic sleep deprivation!
In this new season as a mom, my life as a musician has taken a new shape, but I am grateful to remain active as a singer and music educator. I work as a soprano section leader and cantor at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, teach group music classes twice a week, and write a blog every week where I can nerd out about making music education easier for parents and educators.
In my free time, I prioritize time with family and friends. I love to walk my dog, Maya, who will always be my first baby! I’m in a book club with my best friends called the “Bosom Brigade Book Club” where we are checking books off of our literary bucket lists. I’m passionate about art history, vegetarian cooking, Formula 1 racing, and playing the acoustic guitar. Recently, I also finished recording an EP of my original songs.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. I feel so fortunate to be a part of this community filled with brilliant, gracious, and generous women. Thank you all for being so hospitable to this sometimes hot mess of a gal who is usually running late for class! I promise that I’m working on it! I look forward to the year ahead and I know that my life will continue to be shaped for the better by all of you and your amazing kiddos.
